Abstract :
Abstract Containership transport companies design their transportation networks as hub-and-spoke to minimize the operational costs and increase their service to different port by using indirect connections. Transportation of container between feeder ports or from the hub ports to the feeder ports called feeder networks and done by feeder ships. The feeder routing optimization determines the fittest feeder ships and best routes to minimize operational costs while considering time constrains. This problem could be described as capacitated open vehicle routing problem with time window (COVRPTW). In this research Genetic Algorithm (GA) is developed to solve the problem, which determines the number of ships, sequence of port calls and pick up and delivery detail. The proposed model implemented in MATLAB and has been tested using a realistic scenario and then it used for a real scenario on a large scale and with information from the 5 port in Persian Gulf and 3 feeder ship (valfajr shipping co.). Numerical results show that the efficiency of the fleet increased by using this method.
