A study on the relationship between upper limb musculoskeletal disorders and dental job

Abstract :
Upper limb musculoskeletal disorders are one of the major health-related issues in dental jobs. This research investigates upper limb musculoskeletal disorders in dental jobs. A cross-sectional study has been carried out on 190 people who opted for dental jobs in Tehran in the year 2016. A modified version of the Nordic interview schedule has been used to collect data on individual characteristics and musculoskeletal disorders. Univariate analyses and multiple logistic regression analysis are then performed. The employees who have dental jobs and aged (mean ±SD) 33.56±9.33 years and the duration of employment 10.19 ±8.85 years have been considered for the research. 72.4% of the respondents reported least a musculoskeletal complaint in last 12-months. The most prevalent musculoskeletal complaints were neck pain (33.3%). Significant relations have been found between the occurrence of upper limb musculoskeletal disorders and age, gender, heavy work (P-value<0.05). In order to reduce Upper limb musculoskeletal disorders, anthropometrically designed work station by ergonomics of standards and exercise often work has been suggested.
