Abstract :
The present study addressed the similarities and differences among patients with bipolar disorder, those with schizophrenia, and a control group with regard to the inhibition and activation behavioral systems and personality traits. The present study examined 105 people including 34 patients with schizophrenia, 36 patients with bipolar disorder, and 35 controls who were selected using convenience sampling. The present study found significant differences in personality traits and the BIS and BAS Systems among the current sample. There was a significant relationship between the extreme levels (either high or low) of the sensitivity of the BAS and BIS as well as Neuroticism, Extraversion, Psychoticism and psychopathological symptoms. Particularly, the combination of sensitivity of the BAS and BIS was related to the specific type of psychopathology.
