The efficacy of multi-axial play therapy on Reducing stress in children with dyslexia

Abstract :
Objective: Reducing stress plays an influential role in maintaining the well being of an individual and its influential power is sometimes beyond one s imagination or awareness. This study attempted to discuss over the efficacy of play therapy on Reducing stress and in particularly the development of Reducing stress in children with dyslexia. Since no study has been conducted natively about the enhancement of Reducing stress of dyslexic children by play therapy, this study was conducted to determine the efficacy of multi-axial play therapy on native dyslexic children. Method: In this cross-sectional and experimental study 30 children referred to Behyad Learning Disorders Center of osku and ilkhchy , Iran, elementary School, aged 8-11 and diagnosed with dyslexia, randomly were selected. A pretest-posttest design along with a 10-session procedure of play therapy was conducted to process the children in two groups of test and control by administering the (SCAS). Results: The (SCAS) scores within pretest posttest for the both control and test groups analyzed with T-test and correlation between results as statistical analyses (P<0.05), showed the internal validity of the experiment by comparing the posttest and pretest results of the control group, external validity by comparing the pretest results of both the control and test groups, and a very significant rise in the (SCAS) scores and enhancement of Reducing stress in the test group, comparing the results of the pretest and posttest for the test group (P<0.05). Conclusions: The study and results showed the efficacy of play therapy as a viable and developmentally appropriate intervention for children experiencing both dyslexia and Reducing stress. As an alternative for other risky treatments and long term complicated psychotherapy, play therapy is suggested as an effective therapeutic procedure involving no any significant risk to enhance and build higher Reducing stress in these children.
