Neural Networks and Deep Learning: Applications, Challenges, and the Future of Artificial Intelligence

Arya Shafiei Sabet1

Abstract :
Abstract: Deep Learning: A Subset of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Deep learning is a subset of artificial intelligence and machine learning that utilizes artificial neural networks for prediction and data analysis. This type of learning relies on neural networks with multiple hidden layers, where a greater number of layers leads to the development of more complex models.1 Neural networks have a structure similar to that of the human brain, and their naming reflects this similarity. The patterns identified by a neural network are represented as numerical components in a multidimensional vector. For instance, data such as text, images, and videos can be converted into numerical components. Through neural network algorithms, it is possible to perform classification and clustering of data. Essentially, a neural network can act as a filter that categorizes or clusters incoming data.2 These networks learn to predict outcomes by observing various sample data. For example, a deep learning neural network learns the characteristics of peacocks and parrots by examining 100 images of each. Consequently, when a new image is presented, the network can identify whether it depicts a peacock or a parrot. In the digital age, deep learning has evolved dramatically, leading to an explosion of data in various forms worldwide. This data, known as big data, is collected from diverse sources such as social media, search engines, and e-commerce platforms.3 However, these types of data are often unstructured and can be so vast that it may take humans several decades to analyze and extract relevant information from them. Various businesses have recognized the countless and incredible potentials stemming from this vast information, and every day, we witness an increase in enterprises that adapt to artificial intelligence and integrate it into their operations, particularly for automating customer support.4
