Abstract :
In the eye, ultraviolet radiation (UVR) does not contribute to visual perception but mainly damages multiple structures. UVR has higher energy than visible light, and exposure to high doses of UVR causes direct cell damage, which plays an important role in the development of cancer. This review provides an overview of the latest knowledge on the role of UVR in oxidative stress in relation to non-cancerous eye pathologies: various corneal pathologies, cataracts, glaucoma and age-related macular degeneration. Here we will analyze the effects of ultraviolet rays on the eyes.
