Gendered Approaches to Urban Public Spaces in Iran: An Analytical Study

Abstract :
Abstract This study examines the role of gender and its impact on urban public spaces in Iran. By analyzing gender interactions within urban environments and their influence on the design and usage of these spaces, the research underscores the necessity of considering women s needs and experiences in urban planning. Urban public spaces serve as arenas for social interaction, cultural expression, and collective participation, and in the Iranian context, which intertwines historical values with contemporary changes, the usage and perception of these spaces by different genders are notably affected. Utilizing descriptive-analytical approaches and exploring various perspectives on women s presence in urban spaces, this study aims to identify the complexities and potentials within the gender dynamics of urban spaces in Iran. The findings suggest that urban public spaces, through inclusive and gender-sensitive design, can enhance social participation and overall well-being.
