Evaluation of social sustainability of Urmia city development with a focus on social issues

Abstract :
Sustainability is word from the last decade of 20th century. This term was generalized by the World Commission on Environment and Development of the United Nations (Brundtland) defining it. The definition of Brundtland report consists of three layers: Development, Equality and Environmental protection. Equality is a layer of sustainable development that with a focus on principles of social justice and equality within a generation, adds the concept of sustainability into research and analysis on the lower levels of space organizations of the cities, which means the urban social districts. In this paper, to evaluate and review the equality principle among generation sustainable development on the lower levels of space organization, some social and biological characteristics from population and housing census in 1375 were compared at the regions of Urmia. The main hypothesis of the research is that according to indexes from the census data, in developing Urmia city and creating new areas, there are significant differences, inequality and instability among the indexes. In this research, in order to compare the selected indexes and ranking the districts, uneven index Morris method is used. The Area range was determined by a 1:25000 scale plan at ARC/info environment and finally, the maps were drawn using ARC/View software. Statistical analysis was done using SPSS software. The results shown in the tables and maps indicate space and place differences of the indexes in Urmia regions.
